EARLY MORNING EXERCISE EXPERIMENT | Type 1 Diabetes Week in My Life

Hi everyone! For the first 5 days of October I challenged myself to try something I’ve never done before – exercise first thing in the morning!! I’m so happy with how this worked out and I can’t wait to make it part of my routine. Do you exercise in the morning? If yes, what kind of activity do you do?

    1. Just want to say that I am so happy I found this channel, I was diagnosed type 1 this year and you have helped aid with my anxiety SO MUCH. Subscribed and love your videos!

    2. Great vid! But must say I find it 😂 that u see 7am as early, I often be up have 10-15 km ran n b home putting porridge on 4 d kids defore 7am, u can defo push harder 💪💪

    3. i dance a lot throughout the day (randomly) which is probably not the best way as my blood sugars tend to go low. Thank you for making this video! i think i'll try a more routine workout too! <3

    4. Great video. I can't beleive how stable your blood sugers are . As someone else commented, mine also look like the alps. I usually excersice about three times per week. Biking is my excersice and now that it is starting to get colder have moved to indoor biking using the zwift app. I have to do a temporary bolus of 0% or take off my pump and I will still go low. As you mentioned, everyone is different. I always have a full water bottle of orange juice with me and several granola bars as well. Even doing a morning workout, I will have something sweet to eat before starting the workout, just to get my BS trending up before starting. I am planning on switching to the tslim pump as my ADP warranty is finishing next week so will be ordering after I have my appointment with my endo next week.

    5. Have you ever wondered why we got it ? I was diagnosed at the beginning of this year in October I went into dka and was in the ICU for a good while. From my research viruses and alloxan caused this . How are most people exposed to viruses ? Vaccines . Big pharma and Monsanto are so evil. We can't live in the past the damage is done but we are not alone 💜 I am a new subscriber

    6. That great. Study shown morning routine before work is good for you. I do cross country workout before school started. I also feel energized afterward.

    7. So happy you made this video!! I've been thinking about a morning exercise routine for a while in order to combat that morning rise and eliminate the issue of lows due to insulin on board. But on some days I leave for work at 7:15 in the morning… so I would have to exercise at like 6 am. And I'm not an early bird!! Lol.

    8. Man! Your blood sugar levels are so stable, I'm envious. I'm normally within range but still, my line looks more like the Alps, I can hardly ever get a flat line. The main reason for this I think it's because I've taken a break from my pump and have returned to manual injections. I was having problems with my underlying tissue and was having more problems with my pump sites than with pen injections. That being said it's harder to achieve a stable flat line, which looks SOOOO nice to me. I always prefer to work out earlier rather than later because if I have a low during a workout, I can pause it and return to it later in the afternoon or evening, but if I leave my workout for nighttime, and go low, then I have no backup time to pick the workout back up later.

    9. Remind me Michelle, have you gotten controlIQ yet?? Love the video btw, I always get so nervous working out because my blood sugars always tank. Maybe I’ll try it in the morning, it never even occurred to me until now!

    10. can you try the chloe ting two week shread challenge on youtube, it is really popular, and would be such a good video ! Also with type one diabetes we can see how are bodys change because weight loss is different for every diabetic x

    11. Awh very nice Michelle! Always love watching your videos! Thank you for doing them 🙂 On the other hand I don't exercise in the mornings. Although i do try to every once in a while do some yoga in the AM but I try to do something at least everyday. It's so hard anymore. Love and happiness your way! <3

    12. You have such a lovely and balanced approach to experimenting like this! I loooooove exercising in the morning, it's the best time imo. Whenever I have dance class in the evenings I am always struggling with preventing lows, but in the morning I hardly ever get lows after exercise. Depending on the intensity I do sometimes give a tiny bolus (usually the more intense the exercise, the more I need), but that's all really. At this point I'm so used to exercising first thing in the morning that I feel weird when I don't have the time for a quick yoga flow or some pilates, haha.

    13. Correct! A.M. is the best for exercise. I’m T1D 45 years and have switched my 3 mile runs to the morning, because cortisol level decrease causes hypoglycemia after 5 PM.

    14. I get up at 4:30 most mornings of the week to workout and I usually do a HIIT type of workout for ~30 mins. I always, always have to give some amount of insulin before my workouts bc they spike quite a bit from the adrenaline! Even when I wake up in the 70's I sometimes will have to have a glucose tab just so I can give some insulin before my workout. I also notice my insulin sensitivity is better throughout the day on the mornings I exercise! Definitely something I've been loving for a long time and the affect it has on my sugars is motivation enough! So glad you enjoyed it too! <3

    16. Another good video Michelle. If a correction is indicated by my CGM, I do what you did: I make about half the calculated correction, and less if my exercise is more intense. Anything involving a period of brisk walking / aerobic exercise, I eat an appropriate amount of carbs. Thanks for sharing.

    17. It's so great to work out in the morning…and guess what, you're done for the day! However, I am also lazy in the AM, so you know, I'm one to speak. LOL. Going to follow your foot steps and do a workout right now, although it's evening. I also really enjoy Yoga With Adriene, she has TONS of free videos and she's easy to listen to.

    18. I love your channel so very informative. When people are first diagnosed with diabetes can they get started on a glucose meter they put into their body and an insulin pump? Or typically do doctors don't advise people to do that?

    19. Glad you are doing well. Do you still use your D6 with your pump ? As for sleep, I found a sleep machine on Amazon that makes white noise, rain sounds, surf, babbling brooks sounds. It really helped me sleep better. The outside noise doesn't wake me any more. I use it every night. Hang in there !!

    20. Well done, morning exercise is the best! I prefer to run first thing, I find my levels a lot more stable when there's little insulin on board and also an empty stomach is better for running. I've also been doing a pilates class for about an hour each week, it doesn't have a massive impact on levels, just a slow drop. Keep up the morning exercise, it really helps improve your daytime levels and mantra
